Gunung Leuser National Park is one of the largest protected rainforest areas in Indonesia and part of the UNESCO-listed Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra. From Bukit Lawang, you step directly into the jungle, home to wild orangutans, monkeys, hornbills and more wildlife. Our jungle treks range from short introductory hikes to multi-day expeditions, always guided responsibly with respect for nature and wildlife. Half-day trek
A short but authentic introduction at the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park, perfect for beginners. Walk shorter forest routes with a local guide, learn about flora and wildlife and keep an eye out for Thomas leaf monkeys and pig-tailed macaques. End the adventure with a relaxing tubing ride on the Bahorok River
1-day trek
A full jungle experience in one day, taking you deeper into the rainforest. With more time and varied terrain, your chances of spotting orangutans and other wildlife increase. The trek includes a jungle lunch and ends with river tubing.
2 days / 1 night trek (most popular)
Our most popular option: an overnight jungle experience with a riverside camp. Trek deeper into the rainforest with increased chances to spot orangutans and other wildlife. Swim in the river, enjoy a traditional jungle dinner and fall asleep to the sounds of the forest before returning by river the next day.
3 days / 2 nights trek
For those who want more time in the rainforest. Two nights allow for longer routes and greater chances to observe wildlife naturally. Enjoy riverside camps, beautiful views over the jungle and return by tubing to Bukit Lawang.
4 days / 3 nights trek
A challenging jungle adventure for those seeking distance and true wilderness. Trek deeper into remote rainforest with longer days. Along the way your guide shares knowledge about medicinal plants and animal behavior, ending with a tubing return to Bukit Lawang.
5 days / 4 nights trek
A complete rainforest expedition for experienced adventures. Trek deeper into remote and untouched jungle areas. Cover longer distances, learn basic survival skills and build a natural campsite using local materials. With luck, you may encounter rare wildlife such as wild elephants or discover tracks of the Sumatran tiger. The journey ends with a tubing return to Bukit Lawang.
